The Canada Water Masterplan is a major regeneration programme transforming 53 acres of Zone 2 London into a new mixed-use town centre. The development will deliver around 3,000 new homes, up to two million square feet of workspace and approximately one million square feet of retail, cultural and leisure space. It will include 12 acres of open space, a 3.5-acre park and town square, and 16 new streets totalling 3.8 kilometres.
Planning permission was granted in May 2020, with construction beginning in 2021. The project is being delivered in phases, with Phase 1 completing in 2026. Early buildings include Three Deal Porters, providing 120,000 square feet of office space and 186 homes, and Dock Shed, delivering 180,000 square feet of office space alongside a public leisure centre.
Masterplan information management
The scale and complexity of the masterplan involve more than 2,000 people across 500 organisations, contributing to a Common Data Environment (CDE) containing over 100,000 documents.
To manage this complexity, Amodal was appointed to provide masterplan-level information management, ensuring consistent data governance across all plots and phases.
Amodal manages the CDE, oversees digital handover processes and uses point cloud technology and drone data to coordinate underground and above-ground assets.
As Tom Whiting, Amodal director, explains, the focus is on “identifying the right information at the right time” to support informed decision-making, reduce risk and future-proof the site for long-term operation.
